Vehicle Configurator for Dealerships: From Click to Qualified Lead
A vehicle configurator is valuable for a dealership when it does more than show colours: it must embed into the dealer website, calculate prices in real time, hand the finished configuration to the CRM or DMS as a qualified lead and, ideally, suggest matching stock vehicles right away. Based on our experience, interactive configurators bring up to 45% more enquiries. The Corvette configurator for Europe shows how this works in everyday sales.
Why configurators matter for dealerships
Prospects want to configure and compare in the evening, not wait for opening hours. The configurator is the moment when digital interest turns into a concrete wish: model, trim, colour, budget. That is exactly the information a salesperson would otherwise lack on the first call.
A pure manufacturer marketing configurator does little for the individual dealer: the lead ends up with the manufacturer or in a central queue, often without local prices and with no link to the stock on site. A configurator embedded at the dealer and generating leads there turns this around, leads where the sale happens.
How a click becomes a qualified lead
The chain from the first click to the appointment breaks down into five steps. Each one is a technical requirement for the software.
1. Embedding on the dealer website
The configurator should integrate into existing dealer websites in a few clicks, without a separate development project per site. That keeps the brand experience consistent and ensures the lead stays with the dealer who runs the website.
2. Real-time pricing
Prices must update live with every selection and reflect the dealer's reality: local VAT, currency, delivery costs, country-specific fees and the dealer's own discount logic. A configurator that only knows list prices creates arguments later in the sales conversation.
3. Lead handover to CRM or DMS
As soon as the prospect leaves their contact details, the complete configuration must flow onwards automatically, via webhook or API to the CRM or dealer management system, including customer data, vehicle interest and source. The salesperson then sees what the customer actually wants before the first contact. How distribution and escalation continue inside the DMS is described in the Corvette Center 2.0 reference.
4. Smart stock matching
While the customer configures, the system compares the desired configuration with available stock vehicles in the background and suggests cars with a high match factor. That shortens the path from "dreaming" to "test drive" considerably, because long delivery times on custom orders are avoided.
5. Analytics for inventory planning
Every configuration is a data point: which wheels are chosen most often? Which interior colour is trending? An integrated analytics suite turns this into valid data for inventory planning and reduces the risk of slow-moving stock.
Real-world example: the Corvette configurator for Europe
For Corvette by Hedin there was no unified, technically valid configurator for Europe. Franchise dealers in different countries worked with imprecise tools or manual lists. The requirements were highly complex: different VAT rates and currencies across the EU, country-specific fees and logistics costs, and fast matching of customer wishes with available stock vehicles.
Instead of a pure marketing tool, PK Solutions built a central sales ecosystem:
- Seamless embedding in dealer websites in a few clicks
- Smart-Stock algorithm that matches desired configurations with stock vehicles in real time
- Dedicated backend per dealer for exchange rates, local taxes, delivery costs, discount logic and the decision whether prices are visible to end customers or the tool serves only as a needs analysis in the showroom
- Direct extraction of option codes and integration with Corvette Center 2.0, which reduces order errors
- Analytics suite for inventory planning and trend insights
Today the configurator is embedded in dealer websites across Europe, covers 5 countries with local taxes and currencies and connects 40 European partner dealers. The solution is the backbone of European Corvette sales at Hedin, from the first sketch through UI/UX to hosting and maintenance. The full reference: Corvette Configurator.
On the distributor platform Corvette by Hedin, which PK Solutions also developed entirely, it is integrated as the only official Corvette configurator for Europe, alongside the complete model range Stingray, E-Ray, Z06 and ZR1 with pricing and WLTP data and a dealer network finder across 19 countries.
What a good configurator needs: checklist
Before you introduce or replace a configurator, check these points:
- Embeddability: Can the configurator be integrated into your website without a development project, and does the lead stay with you?
- Local pricing logic: VAT, currency, delivery, fees and discounts must be configurable per dealer.
- Controllable price visibility: You should decide yourself whether end customers see prices or the tool serves only as a needs analysis in the showroom.
- Lead handover: Webhook or API connection to CRM or DMS with the complete configuration, customer data and source.
- Stock matching: Real-time matching against stock vehicles so prospects are offered an available car immediately.
- Option codes: Direct extraction of the codes for ordering, to avoid transcription errors.
- Analytics: Evaluation of configurations by model, trim and trend for inventory planning.
- Languages and mobile: If you sell internationally, you need languages and a clean mobile experience from day one.
- Operations from one source: Clarify who handles hosting, maintenance and further development.
Conclusion
A vehicle configurator pays off for dealerships when it is built as a sales tool: embedded at the dealer, with real local prices, automatic lead handover and stock matching. Then the click in the evening becomes a qualified lead your salesperson calls the next morning with full context.
